I have a few tick boxes for a hotel which like my food reviews I think are a fair judgement against what you’d expect at home as a minimum and then some more depending on the star rating of the hotel and its brands reputation if relevant.
For me what defines a hotel is it’s ability to offer you a home away from home; somewhere you don’t mind being away from your own bed.
On our travels we have stayed in various hotels and guest houses of various standards. All are scored on the following five key tick boxes
- Great bed or as described – double or king as booked, reasonably firm with clean and stain free soft sheets and good pillows
- Bathroom – which is well maintained and very clean
- Controllable heating and lighting
- Accessible plug points
- Breakfast – better than I would have at home
